National parks tell the ever-evolving story of who we are – our heritage and our history, in its struggles and triumphs. National parks are places that belong to us all, and we all have a place in them. The National Park Foundation (NPF) is dedicated to ensuring more people are able to discover their own connections to parks, because national parks don’t just stand for where America has been – they inspire where we go next.
How We Help
Our parks connect us to nature, our history and heritage, and to ourselves. NPF programs help connect people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to national parks through growing the capacity of our park partners, inspiring the next generation of outdoor leaders, providing opportunities for communities to engage with local parks, and making it possible for students to visit America’s largest classroom – our national parks. Working together with a growing community of passionate park champions, NPF is dedicated to celebrating our nation’s rich diversity – supporting equal and abundant opportunities for all audiences to experience, enjoy, and create life-long relationships with our magnificent national parks.
- Since 2011, NPF’s Open OutDoors for Kids program has helped more than one million students experience the beauty, history, and culture of our parks through field trips and educational resources
- NPF provides funding to make single-identity service corps crews possible, including LGBTQ+, American Sign Language, Latina, Women, and Native American crews
- In 2017, NPF supported the launch of Summit Seekers, a collaborative effort with our partners that provided 51 ambassadors professional training through hiking, camping, and other outdoor events during which they brainstormed ways to increase access to public lands for communities of color
- Through NPF’s Strong Parks, Strong Communities initiative, NPF and our partners provide support for philanthropic partner organizations (park partners), including online tools, peer-to-peer learning opportunities, and annual meetings, as well as capacity building grants and programs
