Zimride and National Park Foundation Encourage Americans to Blaze New Trails

ST. LOUISZimride by Enterprise, a service of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, is launching a promotion to support the National Park Foundation and its recreational, educational and service programs, including Active Trails. The Active Trails program advocates healthy lifestyles while simultaneously protecting and enhancing precious land and water trail resources.

Zimride, the largest web-based ridesharing and carpooling network in North America, will donate $1 to the National Park Foundation for every new member or new ride posted in April – up to $10,000. In addition, the Enterprise Holdings Foundation – the philanthropic arm of Enterprise Holdings Inc., which owns Enterprise Rent-A-Car – will match Zimride's contributions dollar for dollar. This promotion is available in every state except for Alabama, Illinois and Massachusetts.

By the end of the month, Zimride aims to engage 10,000 new and existing members with the goal of raising $20,000 total for the National Park Foundation. That's enough to fund guided bike tours for community youth at New River Gorge National River or restorative outdoor experiences for veterans at Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site.

"We offer our customers a variety of sustainable transportation solutions to help them get where they're going," said Enterprise Vice President Ryan Johnson, who oversees Zimride as well as other sustainable commuter options including the Enterprise Rideshare and vRide vanpooling programs. "Through this partnership, not only can Zimride members share a ride, they also can support some of the most exhilarating hiking and biking trails our country has to offer."

The private, web-based Zimride network serves more than 130 universities, corporate campuses and organizations throughout the U.S. As a sustainable alternative to driving alone, Zimride easily connects drivers and passengers heading to the same area, and helps reduce vehicle emissions, traffic congestion, fuel consumption and financial costs through shared rides. The service is ideal for both day-to-day transportation needs, such as commuting, as well as special occasions like weekend trips out of town or holiday travel.

ABOUT THE NATIONAL PARK FOUNDATION
The National Park Foundation is the official charity of America's national parks and nonprofit partner to the National Park Service. Chartered by Congress in 1967, the National Park Foundation raises private funds to help PROTECT more than 84 million acres of national parks through critical conservation and preservation efforts, CONNECT all Americans with their incomparable natural landscapes, vibrant culture and rich history, and INSPIRE the next generation of park stewards. In 2016, commemorating the National Park Service's 100th anniversary, the Foundation launched The Centennial Campaign for America's National Parks, a comprehensive fundraising campaign to strengthen and enhance the future of these national treasures for the next hundred years.
