Service in Grand Canyon National Park

Service Learning and Training Program for College Students in Grand Canyon National Park

NPF Impact Grant funded service learning training for students in Grand Canyon National Park.

This Impact Grant provided training for college students participating in service-learning projects on college breaks, helping the National Park Service to expand its volunteer program nationwide.

The students attended training sessions on how to conduct an alternative break, which included group building, service and advocacy projects, diversity and social justice, and other topics. The 54 students also performed 658 volunteer hours removing wood from the national park unit, allowing the community to use the wood for heating.

Many of the students returned to national parks to lead other college volunteers on service projects across the country.
