Propelling Ecological Field Trips in New Jersey

An overcast day on the Great Egg Harbor River in New Jersey
NPF Impact Grant helped New Jersey students measure the health of the Great Egg Harbor estuary ecosystem.

Using an NPF Impact Grant, local school groups conducted scientific fisheries sampling and data collection. Combined with service-based student learning and interpretation, the program helped determine if fisheries resources in the Great Egg Harbor River and Estuary are adequate to provide a multiple-species, sustainable ecosystem.

Bringing science to life, students tested water and counted fish and invertebrates on their river trips. By working with scientists inside a national park, students were able to gain valuable first hand experience and create a lasting connection with a local treasure.
