Propelling Ecological Field Trips in New Jersey
Using an NPF Impact Grant, local school groups conducted scientific fisheries sampling and data collection. Combined with service-based student learning and interpretation, the program helped determine if fisheries resources in the Great Egg Harbor River and Estuary are adequate to provide a multiple-species, sustainable ecosystem.
Bringing science to life, students tested water and counted fish and invertebrates on their river trips. By working with scientists inside a national park, students were able to gain valuable first hand experience and create a lasting connection with a local treasure.
