Connect Visitors to Park Resources via Live Webcams
Who knew how vital a webcam could be to so many different park users including visitor bureaus, scientists, and television weather broadcasters? Upgrading the outdated equipment at Big Meadows site proved highly popular. With real-time weather information visitors could prepare, and scientists could study air quality. The webcam also provides opportunities for remote wildlife viewing and virtual park visits.
After updating the webcam, Shenandoah's weather partner WeatherBug.com noticed the improved quality image and they volunteered to help upgrade the park's live weather reporting capabilities with easier to use and more reliable hardware in the visitor center. WeatherBug.com also setup a dedicated Weather Center web page for the park that combines the live weather weather forecast and the new live webcam image.
