Gulf Islands Sea Turtle Nesting

Students Monitor Sea Turtle Nesting Habitats

Local high school students apply classroom science techniques to Gulf Islands National Seashore turtle project.

Gulf Islands National Seashore is a park rich in natural resources. There are sparkling blue waters, magnificent snowy-white beaches, fertile coastal marshes, and beautiful winding nature trails.

Students from the local community helped with efforts to conserve endangered sea turtles nesting on the beaches of this beautiful park. The student participants monitored nesting environments alongside park rangers and applied scientific concepts learned in the classroom to this real-life science project. With hands-on learning, these students discovered the effects of environmental changes on the wildlife and ecosystems on the seashore.
