Explore Lincoln's Home and His Journey to Freedom and Equality
"My friends—No one, not in my situation, can appreciate my feeling of sadness at this parting. To this place, and the kindness of these people, I owe everything."
The Lincoln home, the centerpiece of the Lincoln Home National Historic Site, was restored to its 1860's appearance, revealing Lincoln as husband, father, politician, and President-elect.
This program engaged students in the Illinois: Slavery to Freedom web-based initiative that uses Abraham Lincoln and Lincoln Home National Historic Site as the touchstone for telling the story of slavery to freedom in Illinois. This program covers slavery's introduction on the rural Illinois frontier in the 1700's to the early civil rights struggles of Chicago in the 1920s.
