Connecting Teacher Training Programs with National Parks
In 1992, NPF launched the National Parks as Classrooms (PAC) education program. Parks as Classrooms developed a model collaboration between San Francisco State University and Golden Gate National Recreation Area to help new teachers develop inquiry and place-based programming in national parks. Teachers were provided free curriculum materials, field trip ideas, and workshops for students. The elementary to high school-aged students were able to make connections to real world issues in national parks while also enjoying the outdoors.
