Connecting Students to Further Scientific Research and Engage Communities

Three people trekking through the icy Apostle Islands National Lakeshore
NPF facilitated student engagement at Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. The project educated students and furthered park conservation efforts.

Students helped further the scientific knowledge of park resources, improved conditions on the park's Lakeshore Trail, created a new exhibit at the Michigan Island Lighthouse, and improved the fee station at Meyers Beach. Students who conducted independent research in the park prepared presentations for fellow students, park staff, regional and national science fairs and competitions. This involvement in civic engagement reaches far beyond the boundaries of the national lakeshore.
