Timpanogos Cave Outdoor Classrooms

Outdoor Classroom Activities for Underserved Youth

Introduced 600 Title 1 elementary students to the outdoors through a multi-agency collaborative Kids in Nature program.

600 elementary school students from Title I schools in Utah County participated in a series of outdoor classroom activities through a collaborative effort from the Timpanogos Kids in Nature Group, a six-agency collaborative consisting of Timpanogos Cave National Monument, the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, Utah State Parks, Sundance Nature Preserve, Hutchings Museum and Thanksgiving Point Discovery Gardens. Students visited each of the sites and participated in lessons designed around the topic of water.

The kids explored groundwater movement, wetland resources, mountain ecology, and aquatic species. At Timpanogos Cave, students participated in a guided cave tour.
