Engaging Youth in Real Life Science Experiments!

Kobuk Valley National Park engaged Inupiat Eskimo students by providing them the tools and means to plan and participate in a once in a lifetime camping trip.

Kobuk Valley National Park provides protection for several important geographic features including the central portion of the Kobuk River, the 25-square-mile Great Kobuk Sand Dunes, and the Little Kobuk and Hunt River dunes.

For the first time, Inupiat Eskimo students were able to explore the wilderness of the Great Kobuk Sand Dunes. These dunes are in their backyard at 150 roadless miles away. This science camp showed high school students how to arrange a trip, enjoy a 4-day camping experience, and participate in 10 different science activities in a designated wilderness area.
