Ticket To Ride
In an era of limited school budgets and increasingly sedentary lifestyles, it’s become more important than ever to connect today’s youth with all that the National Park System has to offer. Understanding the financial challenge of getting kids into parks, the National Park Foundation, together with Disney’s Friends for Change and the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund, created a program focused on addressing the transportation need for students across the country.
The Ticket to Ride program not only funds the transportation to and from the parks, it also begins and ends with a strong educational component. National Park Service ranger Julie Fonseca de Borges said about the program, “The really great thing about our education programs is that we work with school kids. So we send them a bunch of materials upfront first and then they read them and get ready for the trip and then they come out to the park.” She added, “Once you go out and explore nature, there’s no telling what you’ll discover!”
