How You Can Experience the Find Your Park Expedition

September 14, 2016Liz GustafsonFYPx

Today, we announced the winners of the 2016 Find Your Park Expedition!

From September 24 - October 1, the National Park Foundation will take eight online influencers and social media stars on an unforgettable journey highlighting the diversity of culture, landscape, and people that make up our National Park System – a trip that is a testament to all that the Find Your Park/Encuentra Tu Parque movement embodies.

The winners will not only visit national parks in the San Francisco Bay Area, including Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park, and San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, in addition to Yosemite National Park, but they will also have the incredible fortune of spending quality time with National Park Service staff, the dedicated people who protect America’s special places and shared history for all of us.

We asked each national park to tell us why they look forward to hosting and guiding our winners later this month. Here is what each had to say…

Golden Gate NRA
Eric DaBreo, Share the Experience

"Everything happens here on the West Coast, right? We're going to share how Golden Gate National Recreation Area embraces the vision for a 21st century park – available for all and buzzing with collaborations and partnerships."

– Aaron Roth, acting general superintendent
Golden Gate National Recreation Area

"Here at Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historical Park, we are very excited to showcase a unique type of national park site - where the park and the community are closely intertwined, and collaborative partnerships help to not only showcase the richly layered, diverse stories of the WWII Home Front, but also illustrate how the important lessons from this history remain relevant today."

– Tom Leatherman, superintendent
Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park

"When people think of visiting national parks they usually don’t think of historic ships in San Francisco. We are excited to engage the online influencers in some of the unknown stories of the park and show them that a dead horse ceremony is a good thing!"

– Morgan Smith, chief of interpretation
San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park

As you may already know, this adventure would not be possible without our partners at REI, Subaru, Aramark, and Columbia Sportswear. It is worth noting that all partners have been past expedition supporters and so we asked each, what makes this such a special program to earn their continued support?

“There is nothing more important to the co-op at this moment in time than creating an outdoors that is for all, not just a historical few. Hearing directly about the adventures and hopes of these influencers is an exciting way to join the creation of a new point of view about the outdoors and we look forward to following them on their journey.”

– Laura Swapp, director public affairs and next gen marketing
REI

“At Subaru, we encourage our drivers to get out there and chase their next adventure. We are proud to once again support the National Park Foundation’s Find Your Park Expedition and grant fellow adventure-seekers the chance to embrace our countries’ natural wonders and carry on the legacy of these cherished national treasures for years to come.”

– Thomas J. Doll, president & COO
Subaru of America

"Columbia Sportswear is committed to stewardship of the great outdoors and the Find Your Park Expedition allows us to share our love of national parks with a group of diverse, talented individuals from across the country. We hope #FYPx inspires young people everywhere to enjoy the outdoors by exploring their local parks.”

– Scott Welch, sr. global manager of corporate relations
Columbia Sportswear Company

“We are honored to support the Find Your Park Expedition again this year. The participants truly communicate an authentic view of the experiences – such as activities, dining and lodging options – that are available to our guests when they vacation at a national park. It’s always inspiring to view the park through a new visitor’s eyes and we hope that the content that they share will inspire others to visit Yosemite National Park, as well as other locations in the National Park System.”

– Bruce W. Fears, president
Aramark’s Leisure division

Be sure to visit the main expedition page to meet the winners – they come from all over the country, have unique stories and perspectives, and capture incredible content. We are excited to experience national parks through their eyes.

At this point, you must be thinking, these eight individuals are incredibly lucky! But in fact, you’re in luck too, since you can take part in the expedition journey by following #FYPx on social media.

Can’t wait to embark on this adventure with you!
