Answer The Call Of The Trail!
If you’re like us, you have a list of hikes you want to do someday — Scale Yosemite’s Half Dome, hike the Angels Landing Trail in Zion, go rim-to-rim in the Grand Canyon, or follow the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. But sometimes, the trail down the street or just out of town is all you need to get that hiking buzz.
What’s the easiest summer activity with the least equipment and the most reward? No, it’s not eating ice cream (though, that is a close second). It’s hiking! All you need is a pair of shoes and some gumption. However, the shoes may be easier to come by than the gumption.
So we ask you… Do you feel the call? Do you yearn to get outside but are waiting for the right time, the right place or the right body? The video below features a young mother, Emily Kay, who wrestled with these questions and then made a decision to get out and reconnect with herself.
“Adventure travel is something a lot of people are interested in once they get a taste for it. I love being outside, but since I had my son I’ve really had to adjust how I can still experience those things,” said Kay. “I feel like there are a lot of moms that give stuff up or just resign themselves to their new life and don’t even worry about their old life. Getting a little piece of that old life back is so important.”
Whether you’re an avid hiker, a casual walker, or like Kay, trying to reconnect with your former self, the trail can bring peace and exhilaration at little to no cost. It’s our goal to celebrate all adventures, great and small and inspire people to answer the call of the trail this summer.
That’s why O.A.R.S. and Chaco Footwear are sponsoring a hiking photo contest. Share your hiking photos with the hashtag #MyTrailisCalling on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter for a chance to win a guided 5-day Grand Canyon rim-to-rim hiking trip for two people from O.A.R.S. and free footwear from our friends at Chaco (Prize Package ARV $4498).
To view all the entries and get more information about the contest visit www.oars.com/mytrailiscalling.
As it says in the video, “Awe-inspiring places challenge us to push beyond our limits into deep canyons through wild expanses and reveal our inner strength.” Show us how you have answered the call of the trail this summer!
