WASHINGTON—Will Shafroth, president of the National Park Foundation, the official nonprofit partner to the National Park Service, issued the following statement regarding the House of Representatives’ passage of H.R. 3055, which includes Fiscal Year 2020 appropriations for the Department of the Interior:

“The National Park Foundation commends Committee on Appropriations Chairwoman Nita Lowey, Ranking Member Kay Granger, as well as Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Chair Betty McCollum and Ranking Member Dave Joyce for their leadership to provide significant funding for the National Park Service in the legislation passed by the House of Representatives today. The Foundation applauds House leadership for moving this spending bill to the floor, and thanks every member of the House of Representatives who supported this important investment in our national parks.

Among other important priorities, the Foundation especially appreciates the bill’s inclusion of $5 million for the National Park Foundation as authorized under the National Park Service Centennial Act (PL-114-289, Section 402). The Foundation looks forward to matching federal funds at least $1:$1 with philanthropic support for key projects and programs throughout the National Park System. As the official nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, the Foundation welcomes the opportunity to leverage support from our growing community of national park champions to ensure these beloved places continue to flourish.

We thank House leaders for their work to move this important funding bill through the legislative process, and look forward to its eventual passage into law.”
