Shoshone Geyser Basin

We hiked to Shoshone Geyser Basin in the Yellowstone backcountry in 1988. Visiting this thermal area is so different from the front country geyser basins of Yellowstone, because you may have the place to yourself and there are no boardwalks. We enjoyed exploring the area, but I would not have been so happy to have my children this close to the geyser today because of the danger of falling through the crust. At that time, I had not read Lee Whittlesly's book "Death in Yellowstone". Fortunately for us, there were no mishaps and we enjoyed many more backcountry adventures over the years.
