September: In Case You Missed It

September is always a whirlwind of a month! Between squeezing in the last summer escapades, getting the new school year underway, and enjoying the first hints of the fall season, it’s easy to see how the month has zipped right past us. So just in case you missed some of the happenings around the National Park Foundation, we’ve got a quick recap for you!

Happy 51st Anniversary, Wilderness Act!

"A wilderness . . . is hereby recognized as an area where the earth and its community of life are untrammeled by man, where man himself is a visitor who does not remain."

So boldly declared Congress in 1964, when it voted nearly unanimously to protect some of our nation’s most treasured areas. September 3 marks the 51st anniversary of the Wilderness Act, which established the National Wilderness Preservation System and protected 9 million acres of pristine land.

June: In Case You Missed It

June is one of the most exciting months of the year. The weather warms up, the kids get out of school, and, of course, summer starts! With all the excitement, it can be hard to keep up with everything that happens at the National Park Foundation.

But don’t worry! We’ve got your recap for June, just in case you missed it:

Celebrating Father’s Day In Your National Parks

For many of us, our fathers are responsible for first introducing us to the wonders of the National Park System. They led us on hikes through jaw-dropping natural landscapes. They walked with us through the hallowed grounds of our nation’s battlefields. They taught us about the diversity of cultures that together create our national identity.

They instilled in us a lifelong adoration and passion for all these special places have to offer.
