Real-time Webcams for Shenandoah National Park

This Impact Grant targeted the first phase of a multi-part project to upgrade the availability and reliability of near-real time webcam images and weather data for Shenandoah National Park visitors and staff. The park needed to replace an aging but very popular webcam at the Byrd Visitor Center in the Big Meadows area of Shenandoah National Park. With the NPF funds a new high quality camera was acquired and installed to replace the old camera and the new images have been available on the park website since April of 2010. After our webcam / weather partner, WeatherBug.com noticed the improved quality image they volunteered to help us upgrade our live weather reporting capabilities with easier to use and more reliable hardware in the visitor center. WeatherBug.com also setup a dedicated Weather Center web page for the park that combines the live weather, weather forecast, and the new live webcam image.
