Big Cypress National Preserve Transportation Scholar

With only approximately 100 Florida panthers remaining in the wild, the death of each one is a detriment to their continued survival. A National Park Foundation Transportation Scholar assisted in the Preserve’s efforts to protect panthers from vehicle fatalities and worked on projects to design and place wildlife crossings coordinated through state, regional, and non‐profit constituencies. The Scholar also had a significant role in improving the transportation network that surrounds the Preserve and contributed to highway safety analyses, proposed greenway plans, and monitored panther speed‐zones and wildlife crossing usage.
