SPECIAL EDITION
    National Park Documentary
Will Bring Untold Stories to Light
The National Park Foundation is proud to sponsor the new Ken Burns documentary
series, The National Parks: America's Best Idea. Premiering September 27th on PBS, the film tells the story of how America's national parks came to be—focusing on people from every conceivable background who were inspired by these landscapes and in turn devoted their lives to ensuring that the most special places in our country would be preserved for future generations.

The film's community outreach includes bringing stories to light which showcase the roles diverse Americans have played in the creation and protection of the national parks. This outreach also hopes to engage new and traditionally underserved audiences in the parks' educational riches. We invite you this month to experience these untold stories. >>

"Neil Mulholland brings vast experience and expertise to the Foundation that will allow it to continue to be a strong partner with the National Park Service as we near the 100th anniversary of the National Park System in 2016," said Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, who serves as chairman of the Foundation's board. "I had a spectacular time floating the Grand Canyon. I brought my daughter, Sarah, who had just been engaged a month before and this became a hugely important trip for us. We lived for days in the backcountry, where you bring everything in and you take everything — and I mean everything — out. There's a different sense of time out there. Those moments are indelibly etched in my memory. My hope is that the film footage that we brought back was informed not just by my job — which is to go and get these images — but by the larger spirit of the experience."
—Ken Burns on making The
