Celebrating the National Park Service’s birthday is so much fun! National parks across the country are waiving entrance fees and many of them have special events planned. GEORGIA – Join a park ranger for a leisurely float down the Chattahoochee River, and celebrate the National Park Service's 97th birthday by picking up any trash you find along the way. NEW MEXICO – Commemorate another year of preserving and protecting America’s treasured places by visiting Carlsbad Caverns National Park’s special temporary exhibit in which visitors are encouraged to share their favorite national park memories and birthday wishes, and participate in a fun and engaging national park-themed scavenger hunt! PENNSYLVANIA –Learn all about one of our country’s favorite founders, Benjamin Franklin, on the National Park Service’s birthday! In celebration of this special birthday, the Benjamin Franklin Museum at Independence National Historical Park will be free to visitors on Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25. SOUTH CAROLINA – Come along for a Nature Discovery Walk with one of Congaree National Park’s founding fathers, John Cely, or explore the park with a ranger at night during the Moonlight Creatures Walk (reservations required).
