Celebrating the National Park Service’s birthday is so much fun! National parks across the country are waiving entrance fees and many of them have special events planned. Below you’ll find some great ways to celebrate. Visit www.npsbirthday.org to find even more events and activities (and don’t forget to sign the birthday card to NPS!)

GEORGIA – Join a park ranger for a leisurely float down the Chattahoochee River, and celebrate the National Park Service's 97th birthday by picking up any trash you find along the way. Doing so will help preserve and protect the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area for generations to come. Find out more details here.

NEW MEXICO – Commemorate another year of preserving and protecting America’s treasured places by visiting Carlsbad Caverns National Park’s special temporary exhibit in which visitors are encouraged to share their favorite national park memories and birthday wishes, and participate in a fun and engaging national park-themed scavenger hunt! PENNSYLVANIA –Learn all about one of our country’s favorite founders, Benjamin Franklin, on the National Park Service’s birthday! In celebration of this special birthday, the Benjamin Franklin Museum at Independence National Historical Park will be free to visitors on Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25. SOUTH CAROLINA – Come along for a Nature Discovery Walk with one of Congaree National Park’s founding fathers, John Cely, or explore the park with a ranger at night during the Moonlight Creatures Walk (reservations required). Park staff will also share birthday cake with visitors throughout the day at the Harry Hampton Visitor Center! Find out more details here.
