From V in Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park
I have lived in the area known as the Rio Grande Valley since 2001. In that time I graduated with my BA in History and was profoundly affected by the history here in the deep southern tip of Texas. I have been to the Palo Alto Battlefield MANY times - the picture is of my fellow classmates at a Public History Fair in 2010. An event that we put on to chronicle events in public history. Each student chose an event and spoke about the importance of their topic. All of this was situated at the Palo Alto lobby building. This particular place is a relic and a small walk up the trail, you can go to the overlook area and see where the US and Mexico met in this battle that literally changed the United States in 1846. Flags on the former battlefield mark where each side were positioned. If you ever get a chance to visit us here in the Rio Grande Valley and love history - you will find a plethora here like none other. http://www.nps.gov/paal/index.htm
