Rick

I wrote this during a two month road-trip this past summer to see many of our beautiful western National Parks. You have my permission to use it!

Roads West

After ten years on the job-
‘Bout the twenty first of June-
I’d bought an old van,
and threw in the tunes.

With’n outa date atlas,
Old quilt’n pillow
Rusty Coleman cook stove-
I was free and solo.

South Dakota’s Badlands,
Black Hills’n Yellowstone
Devils Tower, Wyoming
Big Horn and Soshone.

Majestic blue Tetons,
Glacier’s icey bliss.
Climbed on Mount Rainier
Redwoods in the mist.

I lived from a can,
Cooked over flames-
Slept under stars-n
Showered in the rain.

Crackl’n camp fires
Just the sky’n a road
Fell in love with the West
And life with no load.

Big Sur on the ocean,
Hiked Yosemiti
Deep in Grand Canyon,
And then Joshua Tree

Zion and Bryce
Hoodoos ‘n blue skies-
Sagebrushed Mojave,
Rocky Mountain highs.

Day of the week?
Time of the day?
Day of the month?
It all’d slipped away.

But like all good things,
The end drew near-
The nights grew colder
Autumn was near.

So I hadda turn back
For home’n some work
But come next spring
I’m trip’n again- westward

(continuous fading refrain)

South Dakota’s Badlands,
Black Hills’n Yellowstone
Devils Tower, Wyoming
Big Horn and Soshone.
Majestic blue Tetons,
Glacier’s icey bliss.
Climb’n Mount Rainier
Redwoods in the mist.

Deep in Grand Canyon,
And then Joshua Tree

Hoodoos ‘n blue skies-
Sagebrushed Mojave,
