On the morning of January 5th, 2011 the temperature at the South Rim was hovering between 5 and 10 below zero. My spouse and I spent the previous night in one of the cabins approximately 150 feet from the rim. I went out that morning just as the sun was coming up. For a few minutes I had it all to myself. As I was taking in the view, a raven flew by so close I could hear its wings slicing through the air. It's a moment I will never forget. I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to experience extraordinary places such as the Grand Canyon.
