After I retired, I wanted to honor the memory of my WWII Merchant Marine Dad. What better place than the SS Red Oak Victory ship in Richmond CA harbor. One of the last of 747 ships build by the homefront heroes of Richmond. When the new Rosie the Riveter WW II Homefront National Historical Park was planning to open a new Visitors' Center next to the historic Ford Assembly Building, my wife and I went down to take the 12 -hour docents' training. We are happy to welcome you every other Friday afternoon, to hear your WW II story, show you some of our award-winning videos in our LEED Green theater/visitors' center. Open 362 days 10-5. Free.
