National Park Foundation Announces The 2012 “Share The Experience” Photo Contest Winners

2013 Contest Runs Through December 31, Contest Entries And Rules Available At www.ShareTheExperience.org
(Washington, D.C.) May 10, 2013 –The National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s national parks, and Active Network (NYSE: ACTV) are proud to announce the winners of the 2012 Share the Experience photo contest. This annual contest encourages amateur photographers to explore the nation’s federal lands and share their experiences by capturing and submitting their favorite shots. The winning picture will be featured on the 2014 Federal Recreational Lands Pass.
This year, Katherine Hawkins of Hyde Park, N.Y., received the grand prize for her photo from Bridger Teton National Forest. In addition to her photo being featured on the 2014 Federal Recreational Lands Pass, Ms. Hawkins will receive $15,000 and a Federal Recreational Lands Pass.
Second place went to Sue Cullumber of Chandler, Ariz., for her photo of Salt River at the Phon D Sutton Recreation Site in the Tonto National Forest. Third place went to Adam Jewell of Conshohocken, Pa., for his photo of Isle Royale National Park.
This year’s “Fan Favorite” photo recipients were Charlie Choc of Marietta, Ga., and Laura Geier of Santa Barbara, Calif. Honorable mentions were awarded to: John Odle of Boise, Idaho, Cassandra Crowley of Big Water, Utah, Don Tackett of Folsom, Calif., Steve Perry of Sylvania, Ohio, and Carl TerHaar of Caderville, Mich.
In total, 26,160 photos were submitted over the course of the contest, which ran from June 28, 2012 to December 31, 2012. A complete list of 2012 winners and their photos are available to view at www.nationalparks.org/photowinners.
Share the Experience is the official photo contest of America’s national parks and federal recreation lands. 2012’s contest was sponsored by the National Park Foundation, and Active Network (NYSE: ACTV), in partnership with the National Park Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the Bureau of Reclamation, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service , the U.S. Forest Service, and official media partner Destination America. The contest entries showcase the more than 500 million acres of federal lands and draws entries from all across the United States.
The 2013 Share the Experience photo contest is now accepting entries through December 31.
